A bit of a squeeze

As I cram my three kids into our quite large but not large enough car, I shudder to think if the loony greenies will ever succeed in making these cars compulsory.....

Karim, could you please enlighten me? My apologies, but I don't understand your comment.
Thanks, OM

Opinionated Mummy: Karim is attempting to "link farm" google. Google gives page rank (how high up in the search results you appear) at least in part based on how many other sites link to you, and how popular those other sites are. It also has logic to notice when a group of those links are self referential (so creating 10 sites that each link to each other has no value).

There is therefore a business in spam on blog comments, with that spam having a link to your site and therefore fooling google. The easiest way to stop people doing that is to stop them from succeeding - i.e. delete the link from Karim's comment and note that you don't permit link whoring.

Thanks, PaulL. "Link whoring"?? I'm feeling a bit stupid right now, but I think I get your drift. Appreciate the help. Will work on banning link whoring now.....

Hmm. I may have been loose in my use of web jargon - don't want to go giving you words that you might use out of context!!

Strictly speaking I think link farming is when you create a web site specifically for the purpose of accumulating links, and therefore improving your or someone else's page rank.

Link whoring is when you write comments and always attach your link to it, or gratuitously link to your site. Like philu does over on kiwiblog all the time. So probably marginal for me to use it in that way, but it would cover what karim was trying to do. Easier actually to just ban spam....

PS: liked the cars - which is what I came here originally for. I reckon the corvette one looked pretty cool, but I guess it's only photoshop and not a real car.

Thanks for the advice. Feeling more worldly now! Re the cars, definitely pre-children options, even without photoshop. Can you imagine getting marmite all over a Corvette's upholstery! Shudder!
